In 2014, friends invited me to my first 5k race, and I've enjoyed them ever since. In 2016, I began doing local Sprint Triathlons, in 2018 I began Obstacle Course Races, and in 2019 I began Trail Running.
What motivated me to do these races was to push my limits and to see what I could do. When I was 33 I had a heart attack, a second one at 39, and quintuple heart bypass surgery at 43. My aggressive, genetic heart disease has become an overarching challenge these past 12 years - a challenge I'm facing head on.
So I run, swim, bike, and climb up cargo nets to be in control of my body, to strengthen my heart, and to see what new challenges I can achieve. I'm never the fastest and live at the back of the pack, but I'm out there trying up against some challenging odds.
