I am a retired elementary school teacher, a writer, a reader, and a triathlete recovering from a bike crash that occurred over a year ago. I love to swim in pools and lakes, run on streets and trails, hike and bike. I love to be outdoors moving through the air or water and seeing how many creatures I can spy along the way; humming birds, deer, dragon flies, blue herons, and turtles.
I love to watch things grow in my garden, I love to doodle. I run with my husband, walk with my dog and my friends. I love to race, and to cheer on my trainees (who I mentor), and students (who I coach).
I have not competed since March 2022 when I ran Napa Valley Half Marathon injured. I was training for the full, but my back started giving me trouble, probably as a result of the bike accident. I was scheduled to run Boston in April (my third), but I couldn’t make the trip because I couldn’t sit because of back pain. I am signed up for Ironman California in October. My goal is to finish the swim in the top 5 in my age group, and possibly see how far I can go on the bike course. I have a herniated disc and have been unable to bike and have only been back to regular running for about a week and a half. I am just now able to sit to eat a meal, or drive a car. I am hopeful I will be able to return to triathlon next spring.
My injury and long recovery have been frustrating, but have left me more determined to get stronger. I am grateful for the movement that I am able to do.
I also love to eat! Picky bars are my favorite on the trails because they are real food and real delicious!
